One day at a time
During the Pandemic, the methadone clinic at Östra Sjukhuset had to rethink their day to day operations. Not only how to safely give out medicine, but also how to maintain the social aspect of the clinic. When fighting to staying sober, having sober social connections is very important.
We met people telling us about families being teared apart - and reunite again. About the constant stress about money, next fix, someone you pissed off and where to sleep the following night. A former bank robber told us about when HIV hit, and how he lost several friends in a very short period of time. Another who was released out of prison a few days prior.
The pandemic had left the clinic with a makeshift waiting room, a tent, a couple of chairs and some heaters.
